I was whitewater rafting in West Virginia once and got unexpectedly tossed out of the raft. Even though the water was shallow and I had a life vest on, my first response was to panic and flail about in the tumultuous water, which only served to give me a mouth full of water and keep me stuck in the swirling rapids.
