Do You "Lather, Rinse, Repeat" With Your Marketing?

I learned something from a shampoo bottle that can be applied to your marketing efforts to make them more effective. It's the "lather, rinse, repeat" principle.

Since the first washing of your hair usually doesn't get it as clean as it could be, repeating the process can yield better results than just doing it once.

That's what you want to think of in terms of your marketing.

In my marketing studies in college, one thing that was repeated over and over was the need to test, measure & quantify your results. It was also important to track everything. If you couldn't track your marketing or advertising efforts, you were essentially throwing away your dollars or time.

It's also important to have a strategy–a desired outcome and a plan to achieve it–in place instead of doing "drive by marketing" (acting on ideas as they come and "winging it" or trying to get too much done in a short time).

So, my "shampoo formula" for marketing your business (and mine) is:

Plan, Act, Measure, Tweak, Repeat

1. Plan–start with the end in mind. What outcome do you want? What ideas, resources, tactics can help get you there?

2. Act–swiftly and confidently. Don't get stuck in perfectionism or the need for "certainty." If you wait to act until it is "perfect" or to think of all the cause-effect scenarios to prevent "making a mistake."

3. Measure–your results. What effect did your efforts cause? Was that the intended result? Were you on target, close, or way off? Make sure you have some way to track and quantify your data.

4. Tweak–what seemed to be a factor in not getting what you wanted. Sometimes a lot needs to be modified, but sometimes it's best to methodically and slowly adjust one thing at a time.

5. Repeat–steps 1-4. Based on feedback you received/gathered from step #3, determine what variable to change (step #4) then repeat the steps until your desired outcome is achieved (or close enough).

What marketing ideas do you have for getting the word out about your business? Do you know the various ways there are to market your business? Is there a succinct plan to implement a variety of those tactics in a concentrated way? If so, find a way to measure before you implement.

If not, my first-ever group teleseries training might be perfect for you–at a no-brainer price compared to all you get, including time with me that up until now only my private 1 on 1 clients had privvy to.
