Do You Ever Feel Like "Throwing in the Towel" on Your Business?

A client sent me an email today after having a few things happen that day that seemed to pile up into a feeling of frustration. "I just want to give it up. I am tired of over working. Wondering if this is what I am supposed to do. Why hasn't my business taken off after 6 years?"

Have you ever said things like this to yourself when a series of events occurred that made you feel angry or deflated? I know I have.

We can all have those days that seem to beat us down–in business and in our personal lives. And it seems bigger and more raw in the moment than it usually really is in the grander scheme of things.

Remember that circumstances and emotions are temporary. And you have the ability to change them. How? This was my advice to her:

1. Do some EFT tapping on the feelings of frustration and defeat to calm down the stress center of the brain, which is definitely in overdrive at such times. Then you'll be better able to:

2. Shift your focus. What are you focusing on? What's NOT working, or what IS working? The clients who DON'T value you and your time, or the clients you have who DO? The few problems you had TODAY, or the numerous successes you had this WEEK? Shift your focus and you'll shift your persective, hence your feelings.

3. Change the meaning you're giving to whatever has occurred. Ask yourself what meaning you've given it that is producing this feeling of frustration or overexaggeration. Then ask yourself what's another meaning you could choose that is less dramatic and negative, perhaps even a positive spin.

(I have a really simple but powerful technique that I teach my clients to use that guides them easily through this process to eliminate any negative emotion they're feeling about any event. Works every time!)

4. Ask yourself what positive lesson or outcome you can get from this experience (e.g., it's a reminder of why you are working on changing your business model and programs, that you still have some office procedures and policies to tighten up, that you still have work to do around the type of clients you're attracting or pushing money away, etc.).

Being a business owner is the biggest growth accelerator there is! it demands that you step up, play bigger, change your identity of yourself and what's possible, shift your mindset about money and the services you provide, and get comfortable with being uncomfortable. You'll continue to have days like this no matter how successful your business becomes. But knowing how to respond to them more favorably and more quickly/easily is the real key to success.

Here's a post I wrote on this topic earlier this year that can help you discover the gifts in days like these.

So don't throw in the towel. Stay focused on the right thing–that you are on your path with what you love to do and you are here to assit with the global shift of these times. Do what it takes to grow yourself through your business to be of better service to the world. For us Lightworkers, that's what it's all about.
